Storytelling is almost synonymous with the Karoo. I remember growing up, sitting around my grandfather's dinner table listening to one story after the next. Nothing was impossible - we listened wide-eyed to stories of horses with flaming eyes and tragic mermaid tales of men being drowned in the deep. His ability to paint these imaginary story-worlds with such vividness, layering it with tension and suspense, always twisting and turning the details slightly so as to not bore us with the same story- is what formed my earliest connection with photography.
